History
The Broad Left was initially a small group of doctors and medical students who stood on a common platform for BMA Council. The Broad Left now comprises of a large group of individuals who are local negotiating committee representatives first and foremost with roles on regional and national committees across branches of practice. We aim to organise members, democratise the BMA and fight for members and the NHS.
You can find our individual information here.
What do we do?
Doctors' Broad Left is the website for the Broad Left in the BMA. We use this website for a variety of activities:
Writing - we have news and opinion articles on healthcare politics and trade unionism, particularly focused on the BMA and the working conditions of doctors and medical students with the NHS
Openness and accountability - we use the website to model how we envisage the BMA should be. We are committed to being open with each other and other BMA members about our work, the arguments we are making and our voting records.
We welcome involvement from other BMA representatives and members, and sometimes other trade unionists, who are in broad agreement with our platform and aim to critically engage with ideas from across the left. Our editorial criteria is broad - we will always want to publish rank-and-file activists.
Organising - this is also a place for us to recruit new people to the broad left, share resources and promote our current projects.
